Introduction

Welcome to the Pentland Gait Public Consultation Website. This website is intended to inform you about the emerging proposals for Pentland Gait, Edinburgh.

On behalf of Hamcap (Pentland Gait) Limited thank you for your interest in this public consultation event.

This event relates to a proposal for the ‘partial demolition of the existing office pavilions (Heriot House and Currie House) and redevelopment of site as mixed-use development including purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) and office floorspace (Class 4) ’at Pentland Gait, 595 & 597 Calder Road, Edinburgh.

This event allows us the opportunity to present ideas for the development and provide the public the opportunity to make comment

Following the first event held on the 27th November 2023, the second consultation event is held on the 15th January 2024 between 3pm and 7pm to discuss how the proposal has evolved following the comments received.

Proposal

Proposed partial demolition of the existing office pavilions and redevelopment of site as mixed-use development including purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) and office floorspace (class 4) at Pentland Gait, Edinburgh.

Location

The Pentland Gait site extends to approximately 1.82 hectares and comprises three office buildings – Calder House, Heriot House, and Currie House. The proposal relates to Heriot House and Currie House which are located on the south side of the site orientated towards the eastern boundary and comprise 2,400 sqm of net floorspace in total. Heriot House and Currie House are arranged over two to three-storeys and currently there is around 2,200 sqm of floorspaces vacant. 

The site is bounded on its east side by the Union Canal, with a towpath located on the east side of the canal, the nearest access point to which is located a two walk to the north site, off Cultins Road. The site is in a prime location for students. The site is an approximate 15-minute walk or an 8- minute cycle to Heriot- Watt University, further to this the site is an approximate 20-minute walk or 6 -minute cycle to Edinburgh Napier University, Sighthill Campus.

Face to Face Public Consultation Event

We will be holding a face to face exhibition of the emerging proposals for Pentland Gait. 

Representatives from the applicant will be available to provide information about the proposal during this face to face session taking place on the 27th November from 3pm to 7pm.

It will be held at Heriot House 595 Calder Road, Edinburgh, EH11 4HH.
